Flavours
Mountain Pepperberry Liqueur is unique among liqueurs, although many people say it reminds them of Chartreuse.
Aroma - Rich, warm, spicy aroma redolent of peppercorns.
Palate - Complex sweet/bitter palate with spicy overtones.Beautifully balanced with a very pleasing lingering aftertaste.
Botanics
Mountain Pepperberry will answer to the botanic name of Tasmania lanceolata.
It calls the Winteraceae plant family its home. The Winteraceae plants are identified with the former supercontinent Gondwana. The berries and the leaves characteristic flavour can be attributed to polygodial which contributes the highly aromatic peppercorn note.
The Source
The Pepperberry shrub is a denizen of cool and wet habitats from sea level to alpine regions in Tasmania.
It can also be found in the cooler, higher altitudes of mainland Australia as far north as the Blue Mountains of New South Wales.
Our berries come from wild stands in the highlands of Tasmania. Sustainable harvesting is practiced.
Wildcrafting the berries guarantees the authentic natural flavour of our Mountain Pepperberry Liqueur.
Therapeutics
Many ancient monastic liqueurs contained herbs which gave them therapeutic properties. Mountain Pepperberry Liqueur is no exception as the major flavour component polygodial has been shown to be a potent antifungal agent against candida.
